Fundraising for a worthy frame for "Mediterranean Port with a Caravan of Merchants"
DonateThanks to the cooperation between OTP Capital Asset Management Company and the Khanenko Museum, the painting "Mediterranean Port with a Caravan of Merchants" by the Flemish artist Jan Baptist van der Meiren, dated to the 18th century, was recently restored. The project cost amounted to 150,000 UAH, and the restoration process took nearly a year.
Now we face our next task – to provide the painting with a worthy frame. After all, a frame is not just a decoration but an integral part of the artwork. Often, artists envisioned the frame at the very beginning of their work.
As Edgar Degas once said: "The frame is no less important than the painting: it can either enhance it or destroy it." And as the saying goes: "A painting without a frame is like a soul without a body."
Unfortunately, "Mediterranean Port with a Caravan of Merchants" has not retained its historical frame. And replacing it with a modern plastic moulding is absolutely unacceptable for us! That’s why we are launching the next stage of our project – we are beginning a fundraising campaign for a frame worthy of our masterpiece.
